Denise Dea
"I believe that everything about a project is a design problem, even those aspects not normally associated with design — the finances, project management, even contract administration"
WHY ARE YOU AN ARCHITECT?
Denise has over 20 years of experience in managing a diverse number and scale of public and private architectural projects in a variety of office sizes. Her expertise is based on balancing expectations of written and graphic communication, mentorship and serving as a liaison between the different constituent bodies that form the project teams; from the contractual and personnel logistics through the financial responsibilities to the technological implementation. She believes that design solutions come from dialogue and exchange, clarity and transparency and good humor.
Denise is on the Faculty of the Boston Architectural College in the areas of Architecture, as well as Practice. Each year, she teaches a variety of courses ranging from Graduate Research and Writing, Master’s Thesis Prep, Master’s Thesis 1, Master’s Thesis 2 and Professional Practice. She is the founder of groundplane, a social networking site dedicated to highlighting the work of the Distance M.Arch thesis students and faculty. She has been the recipient of two Edco Grants – one in 2012 for a project entitled “Visualizing Practice,” which explored the roles of graphics in the teaching of professional practice to architecture students, and another in 2010 for “NODE,” a collaborative project to bring students together in teams to participate in architectural competitions.
She holds a B.Arch from the University of Southern California and a MDesS in History and Theory of Architecture from the Graduate School of Design at Harvard University.
